SORRY. YOU WERE PROBABLY EXPECTING TO SEE HUGE DISCOUNTS HERE. BUT NOW WE HAVE YOUR ATTENTION, WE HAVE SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO SAY ABOUT SALE AND BEING FAIR. TO YOU, TO OUR WORKERS AND TO THE ENVIRONMENT.
Let’s put it mildly: sale is not our thing. Huge discounts, especially when done every few months, contribute to the devaluation of product a lot of people put their hearts and hard work into. That’s just not fair.
We stopped running after sale and seasonal collections a long time ago, and there’s an important reason for that. A seasonal collection is a temporary collection. You have to make a few each year to keep up with the system and people’s buying habits. But when you do temporary stuff, you squeeze yourself – and everyone you work with – into a fast consuming mindset. At the end of the season, you have to make room for a new collection and get rid of the old one.
For us, the value of our pure goods doesn’t change over time. Therefore, we put effort into calculating the true value of our products. If a product is sold for, let’s say 50% of the original price, it’s very likeable that the original price was too high to begin with. We don’t think that’s fair to you. Also, the discount madness results in a lot of impulse purchases that end up unworn in the back of people’s closets.
Huge discounts contribute to the devaluation of goods that many people put their hearts and hard work into.
Sale also hurts retailers. It forces them into a financial squeeze, having to compete with the discount a brand or other retailers offer. People will simply buy a product at the cheapest place possible, after all. In order to sell their products, retailers are forced to sell the product as cheap as possible, while the price they paid to the brand stays the same. If a retailer has to sell a product with 50% discount, the margin they had is almost completely gone. For the smaller stores, it becomes even impossible to compete with the big players. We value all of our retailers and by keeping our prices the same, we do not only ensure them a fair margin, we also encourage a fair game.
Sale and seasonal thinking pave the way for the fast fashion concept. We want both consumers and the industry to slow down.
Furthermore, the huge discounts result in the devaluation of goods that many people put their hearts and hard work into. When a brand is able to sell their products for only 30% of the original price and still makes a profit, there’s a big chance that the margins on the suppliers’ end are not fair. When you buy Kuyichi, you can be sure that the price you pay is a fair price. Fair to you, fair to our workers and retailers and fair to the environment.
Sale season starts earlier every year, making the ‘fashion seasons’ shorter and shorter. These shorter seasons pave the way for the fast fashion way of thinking. We want people to slow down instead. We work very hard on perfectioning our pure goods and making them as timeless and durable as we can. We only launch them when they’re ready for it and we keep them in our collection as long as people wear them with love. This isn’t always easy, because our industry demands the opposite. But it’s what we stand for and that’s why we’ll keep doing this.
